Telluride Weather & Seasons

Weather & Seasons

Telluride sits at 8,750 feet in the San Juan Mountains, which means the weather is dramatic, dynamic, and absolutely part of the experience. Expect big blue skies more often than not, cool temperatures year-round, and the kind of mountain air that makes everything feel more alive. With over 300 days of sunshine annually and roughly 270 inches of snowfall in winter, Telluride is a genuinely four-season destination.

Winter (November – March)

Winter in Telluride is what legends are made of. Consistent snowfall, crisp mountain air, and the kind of bluebird powder days that skiers travel the world to find. While temperatures can dip below freezing — particularly in January and February — sunny days are frequent and extended cold spells are rare. This is peak ski season, and the mountains are at their most spectacular.

December: Avg High 28°F / Avg Low 5°F | Heavy snowfall begins — average 18" for the month

January: Avg High 27°F / Avg Low 4°F | Peak powder season. Coldest month of the year.

February: Avg High 30°F / Avg Low 6°F | Deep winter. Excellent ski conditions continue.

March: Avg High 37°F / Avg Low 12°F | The snowiest month of the year. Prime powder days well into spring.

Spring (April – May)

Spring in Telluride is a season of dramatic transitions. Snow still caps the peaks through April and into May, while the valley floor begins to thaw and come alive with color. Late-season skiing is still excellent — March is actually the snowiest month — and as the trails dry out, spring hiking begins. Expect some wet days from snowmelt runoff, but increasingly warm sunshine and longer days.

April: Avg High 44°F / Avg Low 20°F | Late ski season. Trails starting to open.

May: Avg High 54°F / Avg Low 30°F | Warmer days. Hiking season begins. Final snowfalls possible.

Summer (June – August)

Telluride summers are pure magic. Warm, sunny days with cool mountain evenings, lush green valleys below dramatic snow-capped peaks, and a world-class festival almost every weekend. This is when the ski resort transforms into a hiking and mountain biking playground, accessible by the free gondola. July is the warmest month, with daytime highs reaching the mid-60s°F — never uncomfortably hot, always refreshing. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in July and August, so plan outdoor activities for mornings.

June: Avg High 64°F / Avg Low 35°F | Festival season begins. Dry and sunny.

July: Avg High 67°F / Avg Low 42°F | Warmest month. Peak summer season. Afternoon thunderstorms possible.

August: Avg High 65°F / Avg Low 40°F | Lush landscapes. Highest rainfall month. Stargazing at its peak.

Fall (September – October)

Fall in Telluride is one of Colorado's great natural spectacles. The surrounding aspen groves turn a breathtaking gold, typically peaking in late September and early October, drawing visitors from across the country. Temperatures are crisp and comfortable, festivals continue through September, and the trails are at their quietest — making fall one of the best-kept secrets for a Telluride visit.

September: Avg High 59°F / Avg Low 33°F | Fall foliage begins. Film Festival and Blues & Brews.

October: Avg High 50°F / Avg Low 23°F | Peak fall color. Crisp days. First snowfalls possible at elevation.

A few things to keep in mind:

Early check-in and late check-out are not guaranteed. When we have a same-day departure or arrival, our team needs the full window to clean, inspect, and properly prepare the home.

Guest access is only granted once the property has been fully cleaned, inspected, and signed off by our team—ensuring your home is truly ready for you. A fee may apply for early arrivals or late departures, depending on the property, schedule, staffing, and timing involved.

If the home isn't quite ready when you arrive, we may still be able to assist with luggage drop-off so you can get out and start enjoying your day right away.
Housekeeping is included in your stay through a one-time cleaning fee, which covers standard departure cleaning, laundry, and replenishment of basic amenities.

Daily housekeeping is not included by default. However, additional cleaning services can be arranged during your stay upon request. Options include light touch-ups, mid-stay refreshes, or full cleanings.

We recommend scheduling any additional housekeeping at least 48 hours in advance. Availability and pricing may vary depending on the property.
